I worked with Doug for the best part of two months when I was a creative consultant at STV and Doug was Head of Creative. It was clear from day one that Doug was a brilliant creative director who had massive respect from his creative department and knew how to bring out the best in each of them - a mixed bunch of writers, art directors, designers and film-makers. STV creatives have limited budgets to work with, yet even with the tiniest budget, Doug would insist that his creatives produced a powerful idea. He regularly chipped in himself - he's capable of producing powerful concepts on any brief. Doug's a lovely person to work with and a dedicated, industrious and inspirational man. He has a full Mac skillset and really gets social media.
During my time as Partner and Creative Director at The Bridge (1997-2009), I brought Doug in to work on specific projects on numerous occasions. He worked either with me personally or with other members of the team. He is an excellent ideas man and is also a technically skilled designer.
The reason I hired him so often is that I knew I could rely on him to come up with the goods. I also enjoyed having him around because he's intelligent, witty and good company.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Doug to anyone, please feel free to contact me for a verbal reference if required.
I started my career under Doug and I couldn’t have wished for a better beginning. I’m still influenced by his eye for clean, simple and elegant art direction as well as his drive for new and exciting ideas. Always approachable, he could easily lead the creative teams he managed and is an inspiring wealth of knowledge. Unlike so many creatives, he focuses on the client’s needs, not just the desire for awards. It just so happens, he’s good enough that the awards naturally follow.
